Antisocial Behaviour Spurs Police Action in Somerset’s Kingsmead Square

Residents of Kingsmead Square in Bath have been grappling with persistent antisocial behaviour, disrupting daily life and community wellbeing. In response, local police have introduced a dispersal order targeting the area to curb such disturbances.

This order grants officers the authority to disperse crowds and demand that individuals engaging in—or likely to engage in—antisocial behaviour leave the designated zone. The order took effect this weekend and remains active until 12:30pm on Sunday, July 13.

The dispersal zone spans Kingsmead Square, extending from James Street West to Lower Borough Walls, Monmouth Street to Upper Borough Walls, and includes parts of Westgate Street.

Local police stated on social media: “Following reports from the public about antisocial behaviour, a dispersal order has been implemented in Kingsmead Square until Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm. Officers are empowered under this order to require individuals committing or likely to commit antisocial behaviour to leave the area.”

Chief Inspector Scott Hill, Area Commander for BANES, emphasized the community-focused approach: “Our neighbourhood policing team is collaborating closely with residents to address ongoing antisocial concerns. The dispersal notice ensures that Bath’s communities can enjoy this area without the negative impact of disruptive behaviour.”
