Animal Sanctuary CEO Sleeps Rough to Raise Funds

Kevan Hodges, the CEO of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, is embarking on a charitable mission that involves swapping his comfortable bed for a week of sleeping rough. From June 19 to 25, Kevan will be spending his nights outdoors near the sanctuary’s stores in Devon and Somerset.

This fundraising endeavor aims to shed light on the challenges faced by many animals before finding refuge at the sanctuary. Each night spent in Chard, Crewkerne, Honiton, Ilminster, Sidmouth, Wellington, and Dorchester will help raise awareness and crucial funds to support over 300 rescued animals.

In his role as the CEO of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, Kevan’s initiative seeks to bring attention to the difficult circumstances that the resident animals endure before being rescued by the sanctuary. From stray dogs to abandoned kittens, all donations will directly contribute to the charity’s life-changing work.

Kevan expressed, “We sadly rescue hundreds of animals every year, who are often left to fend for themselves in unimaginably harsh conditions. I will be sleeping rough for seven nights at our eight Ferne charity shops in Devon and Somerset, to raise vital funds for our surrendered, neglected, and abandoned animals. Every donation is a life-saving chance for the animals we care for - thank you for your continued support.”

The proceeds from Kevan’s initiative will support Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s urgent appeal to raise funds due to the charity’s recent unprecedented and severe financial downturn. Donations raised will directly aid the sanctuary in providing necessary food, shelter, care, and love for more than 300 unwanted animals.

This annual initiative follows last year’s ‘Ferne 2 Ferne’ challenge, where Kevan successfully walked 46 miles from Ferne’s original site on the Wiltshire/Dorset border to the sanctuary’s current location in the Blackdown Hills near Chard. Accomplishing the trek in less than 20 hours, Kevan raised over £1,700, which funded various improvements for the sanctuary’s animals.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary, a non-government funded charity, has been providing refuge and rehabilitation to its animals for over 85 years. Located in the Blackdown Hills near Chard, Somerset, Ferne Animal Sanctuary houses and cares for more than 300 animals on its 72-acre site.
