A family-friendly fireworks display in the South West sparked controversy when it was discovered that the music played alongside the show contained explicit and X-rated lyrics unsuitable for young audiences. Videos uploaded on YouTube captured the saucy language and swearing, prompting a concerned member of the public to contact Quedgeley Town Council, the event’s organizer.
Apex Fireworks, the company responsible for the event, issued an apology, attributing the incident to an “unfortunate error” in their use of ‘AI-driven music obfuscation technology’, which resulted in the unsuitable music being played. An anonymous email from another attendee detailed the explicit content in the songs, criticizing the juxtaposition of the controversial lyrics with a segment honoring Remembrance Sunday, creating an uncomfortable environment for families.
The songs played during the display included explicit references to strippers, drugs, and contained expletive language, leading to public outrage and a formal complaint to the town council. Thomas Grant, the director at Apex Fireworks, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating family-friendly events and supporting the community, acknowledging the oversight and vowing to prevent similar issues in the future. Grant also highlighted the display’s tribute to servicemen and women, expressing regret for the inclusion of inappropriate language and reaffirming the company’s dedication to upholding family-friendly standards.
