American Tourist Tries Authentic English Cheddar in Cheddar Village and Summarizes Experience in Three Words

An American tourist recently traveled to Cheddar, England, to sample the authentic cheddar cheese that the village is famous for. The moment was captured in a viral TikTok video posted by content creator Kalani (@Kalanighosthunter), who has amassed over three million followers by sharing taste tests from his travels.

In the video, Kalani introduces his friend Chris Baird, visiting the UK for the first time, as he prepares to try cheddar cheese right in its place of origin. The duo visits Café Gorge, one of Kalani’s favorite local spots, where they order the Café Gorge Club sandwich alongside a glass of Scrumpy cider.

Chris is surprised to learn that cheddar cheese actually originated in England, having always thought it was an American cheese. They start by tasting a slice of raw cheddar cheese, which Chris praises for its “perfect sharpness,” saltiness, and creamy texture. When asked to sum it up in three words, he says, “It’s so smooth.”

Kalani tells Chris that after this experience, his perception of cheddar will change forever, encouraging him to remember the authentic taste when he returns home, where cheddar is often sold as processed, plastic-wrapped cheese. Chris is so impressed he even jokes about moving to the UK to enjoy the cheese regularly.

The two then try the Café Gorge Club sandwich, which features the famous cheddar cheese melted inside. Chris compares it to a Reuben sandwich and says it’s exactly what he’d want for lunch, highlighting the perfect bite and balance of flavors. He calls it an “incredible sandwich.”

Towards the end of the video, Chris thanks the café staff, expressing that despite having eaten a lot of cheese in America, this cheddar was hands down the best he’s ever had. He even jokes about wanting to pack a backpack full of the cheese to take home.
