American Tourist Awestruck by Leeds, Praises Its Unique Vibe and Friendly Locals

An American tourist exploring Leeds has found himself utterly charmed by the northern city, describing its residents as a “different breed” and praising the city’s relaxed character. TikTok creator @kjordyyy, who calls himself “A Meer yank amongst Brits,” shared his glowing impressions after visiting Leeds.

He called Leeds “one of the most chill places I’ve ever been to in the UK,” capturing the peaceful cityscape on camera and highlighting its calm atmosphere compared to the hustle of other cities. The unique northern accent particularly stood out to him. Recounting a conversation with a local named Joe, Kjordy noted the distinctive pronunciation that makes the region’s dialect so memorable.

Kjordy admired how people in Leeds seem completely at ease—“just chilling, relaxing, minding their own business.” He contrasted this vibe favourably against London’s fast pace. He also appreciated the city’s historic architecture and picturesque narrow streets.

A fun discovery was the local phrase “giz a butty,” which means “give me a sandwich” in Leeds slang. He also found the people genuinely kind and was pleasantly surprised by how affordable the city is. A pint of beer cost him only £3.63—“insane” value—and an £8 meal left him equally impressed.

Summing up, Kjordy rated Leeds an 8 out of 10, calling it a “sick city” with “awesome people, good food, and cool architecture” and ranked it as his fourth-favourite city in the UK so far.

Commenters weighed in, with some praising Leeds as “an absolutely elite city” that deserves more recognition. Others noted the presence of a few rude people, but several locals defended the city, emphasizing that rudeness exists everywhere. Expressions of strong local pride rounded out the conversation, with one resident declaring her love for “my beautiful glorious Leeds” and another reveling in hearing the city spoken about with admiration.
