Experiencing cultural contrasts is common when visiting a new country, and American Amber Kacherian’s recent UK trip highlighted a striking difference she truly appreciates. With 396,000 followers, Amber regularly contrasts life in the UK and US through her popular videos. In a recent reel filmed in the historic city of Bath, she highlighted a feature of English cities she wishes America had: walkability.
Amber explained, “Most cities in England are incredibly pedestrian-friendly. You can explore entire towns and cities on foot, often without needing a car.” She shared how, during her visit to Bath, she managed to traverse nearly the entire city by walking, even receiving directions from a local that enabled her to cross the city in just 15 minutes—a feat unimaginable in most American towns.
“In America, that’s unheard of,” Amber remarked. “I wouldn’t even consider walking to my nearest supermarket because it’s simply too far.” She highlighted how American cities tend to be sprawling and spaced out, making car ownership a necessity unless you live in dense urban centers like New York City.

Amber also praised England’s excellent public transport system, which complements the walkability of its cities. For her, the ability to walk almost anywhere in England is a major advantage, one she wishes was more common in the US.
Her post resonated widely, garnering over 2,800 likes and sparking comments from followers. Some expressed delight at her love for “jolly old Blighty,” while others shared how the vast distances in US cities often surprise British visitors.
