An American couple, Caleb and Taylor Kiser—known online as @culturecravingcouple—embarked on a journey to Gloucester Services on the M5 in the UK after seeing enthusiastic praise on Reddit. Their mission? To try what many claimed was the best sausage roll in England.
In a video recounting their experience, the couple explained, “Reddit convinced us to drive to a petrol station in the middle of England purely for a sausage roll. People said it’s better than any bakery’s.”
Initially skeptical, Caleb and Taylor quickly changed their minds once they took a bite. They described the pastry as “shatteringly flaky,” filled with a juicy herb-infused sausage, and served piping hot—comparable to the heat of a microwaved Hot Pocket.

“Honestly, Reddit might have redeemed itself,” they said. “10 out of 10—would absolutely follow anonymous sausage roll hype again. You have to try it.”
They also shared insight into their travel food discovery process: “People always ask us how we find such good food. The truth is, many late-night hours spent in Reddit black holes searching for where locals eat has led us here.”
At Gloucester Services, the couple opted for the traditional pork sausage roll, which was impressively large—“as big as my head,” Taylor remarked. A helpful staff member advised them to wait 10 minutes before eating, to let the flavors settle and absorb fully.
“We were patient, waiting outside by our car, and it was so worth it,” Caleb said. “This was arguably the best sausage roll we’ve ever eaten—both of us were amazed, wondering how something from a service station could taste this good.”
Their discovery adds to Gloucester Services’ growing reputation. Earlier this year, the site was crowned the UK’s finest service station in a Which? survey, where over 4,000 members shared their experiences of service stations across the country.
