Alice Capsey Leads England to Record-Breaking Run Chase Against India

Alice Capsey played a sensational innings to inspire England to the highest successful run chase in women’s T20 history on home soil, sealing an impressive series win over India at Taunton.

Capsey smashed 82 runs off just 42 balls, featuring nine fours and three sixes. Her aggressive knock, partnered brilliantly by Heather Knight’s composed 70 from 42 balls, helped England chase down India’s challenging target of 180 with six wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.

After losing their first three wickets for 38 runs, England seemed under pressure, but Capsey and Knight’s commanding partnership of 137 runs steadied the innings and kept their hopes alive.

India posted a competitive total thanks to captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 56 off 40 balls, supported by strong performances from Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma. Bhatia’s quick scoring was crucial in rebuilding the innings after early setbacks.

England’s bowlers made early inroads, with Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean removing India’s openers. Lauren Bell was the standout bowler, finishing with two wickets for 36 runs, while Sophie Ecclestone contributed with a key run-out.

Despite a missed run-out opportunity at the end, England’s resilience shone through. Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s early dismissal was a setback, followed by quick wickets for Sophia Dunkley and Amy Jones, but Capsey’s fearless hitting kept England firmly in the chase.

The duo of Capsey and Knight combined to blast 19 fours between them, taking control of the innings and setting an inspiring tone ahead of England’s World Cup opener against Sri Lanka on June 12.
