Aldi Proposes New Supermarket Development in Melksham

Budget supermarket giant Aldi has submitted a planning application to build a new store in Melksham, aiming to replace its existing, smaller supermarket on Beanacre Road. The proposed site is the former Countrywide store location on Bradford Road, covering just over one hectare.

The new Aldi store would span approximately 1,353 square metres, offering a retail area around 300 square metres larger than the current location. To accommodate increased customer volume, the development plan includes 124 car parking spaces—almost double the capacity of the existing site.

In addition to enhancing shopping space and parking, the project is expected to create about 40 new jobs, boosting local employment opportunities. Infrastructure changes are also planned, including the installation of a priority-controlled T junction to replace the current two access points, widening the existing road, and adding a right-turn lane for northbound traffic.

Aldi intends to operate the store from 8am to 10pm on weekdays, Saturdays, and bank holidays, with Sunday hours set from 10am to 4pm. A final decision on the planning application is expected by December 10.
