Alcoholic Ordered into Treatment Following Vehicle Crimes in Weston-super-Mare

A 28-year-old man from Robin Close, Weston-super-Mare, has been sentenced to undergo treatment for alcohol dependency after pleading guilty to multiple vehicle-related offences. The individual admitted to theft from a motor vehicle, eight counts of vehicle interference, and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.

Between January and June, Avon and Somerset Police reported that he stole various items from cars across Weston-super-Mare, which he then sold. The stolen goods included electrical devices, a purse, a bag, and bank cards.

On Tuesday, July 15, North Somerset Magistrates’ Court handed down a community order that requires him to participate in a treatment program for alcohol dependency through We Are With You, a support service organized by the Probation Service. He was also ordered to pay a £114 fine.

PC David Edgell, the officer handling the case, highlighted the impact such crimes have on victims: “Theft can cause significant psychological distress, including feelings of shame and anxiety. The offences committed here have affected multiple individuals. We appreciate the cooperation of those who provided evidence that helped secure this conviction.”

PC Edgell added a public safety reminder: “Offenders like this are opportunists. We urge everyone to remove valuable items from their vehicles and ensure they are locked and kept secure.”
