A 45-year-old man from Bath was fined after he had to be physically restrained for refusing to leave a hospital. Arron Alexander appeared at Bath Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour causing harassment, alarm, or distress.
The incident took place on 16 September last year when Alexander visited a Bath hospital with a friend to drop off a bag of clothes for a patient. As part of his bail conditions, he was prohibited from contacting the patient. When Alexander inquired about the patient’s whereabouts, he was informed that they had been transferred elsewhere.
After leaving the bag, Alexander was asked by hospital security to leave the premises. However, he initially refused and exhibited aggressive behaviour. Magistrates heard he told security staff, “I know where you live.” Staff had to restrain him on the floor for 15 minutes until he calmed down.

Defending Alexander, Ned Kemp explained that the defendant had recently sustained a significant head injury just days prior to the incident. Police described him as “a man who appeared to have something wrong with him,” and Alexander himself mentioned suffering a brain bleed at the time.
Mr Kemp added that Alexander’s recollection of the event is limited due to the seriousness of his injury. In the past year, he has been hospitalised 30 times but has engaged with his GP and has had no convictions since 2018.
Alexander, who attended court dressed in a grey hoodie and joggers, was ordered to pay £552. This amount includes a £162 financial penalty, a £65 surcharge, and a £325 contribution towards costs. He will make repayments of £40 per month from his benefits.
