Renowned for his creative contributions to animations like Wallace and Gromit and Morph, Peter Lord, co-founder of Aardman Animations, is now making waves in the conservation world. Through generous contributions, he has aided the Avon Wildlife Trust in acquiring a 44-hectare former dairy farm, Ebdon Farm, in North Somerset.
The venture is hailed as one of the largest projects undertaken by the Avon Wildlife Trust, aiming to transform the farm into a thriving sanctuary for diverse wildlife over the course of several years.
Situated on the North Somerset Levels and Moors, Ebdon Farm’s acquisition was facilitated by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, with the intention of entrusting it to the stewardship of Avon Wildlife Trust. The Trust now has two years to raise the necessary funds to secure long-term ownership of the property.

The project has garnered support from various sources including the National Lottery and animation industry titan Peter Lord CBE, who expressed enthusiasm about the initiative and encouraged others to join in supporting the cause.
The Avon Wildlife Trust expressed gratitude for Peter’s longstanding support, affirming that the project has received initial development funding and is progressing towards its goal with the hopes of creating an educational hub and new visitor facilities while transforming the landscape itself.
Shelly Easton, the Head of Nature’s Recovery at Avon Wildlife Trust, emphasized the significance of the purchase, highlighting the farm’s potential to help tackle ecological and climate crises and protect the natural habitat of wading birds and wildfowl in the face of rising sea levels.
