A37 Road Closed for Hours Following Fuel Spill and Three-Vehicle Crash

The A37 in Somerset is set to remain closed for much of Thursday, September 25, after a significant fuel spill and a subsequent three-vehicle collision near Chelwood. At approximately 8 a.m., emergency services responded to an oil leak from a tanker on this busy road, prompting immediate safety concerns.

Shortly after the spill, a three-vehicle crash occurred in the same vicinity. Authorities have not confirmed if the two incidents are connected, but the spilled fuel has made the road dangerously slippery. Thankfully, the three individuals involved in the collision sustained injuries that are not considered serious and were treated on the scene by paramedics.

Due to the hazardous conditions, the A37 is closed between the junction with the B3130 and the Birchwood Lane turn-off while a thorough cleanup operation is carried out. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and follow the diversion routes established at the Chelwood roundabout.

Avon Fire and Rescue crews remain on-site, working to secure the area and ensure public safety. A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the closure and advised that the road is likely to remain shut for several hours to facilitate the deep cleaning required after the fuel spill.

Drivers are reminded to heed all diversion signs and avoid the affected section of the A37 to prevent further incidents.
