A significant diversion route has been implemented on the A303 in Somerset after a serious collision involving three vehicles occurred near Chard this afternoon, Thursday 30 July.
National Highways has confirmed the closure of the A303 in both directions between the A358 at Rushton Cross and the A30 at Upottery. Drivers are being advised to expect delays and to plan for additional travel time.
Motorists heading westbound are instructed to follow the hollow square symbol, while those travelling eastbound should follow the solid circle symbol to navigate the diversion.

Emergency services remain at the scene as investigations continue into the circumstances of the crash, which took place shortly before 2pm.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports that although the road is closed in both directions from Castleman near Buckland St Mary to the Howley turn off at Marsh for accident investigation, traffic is currently coping well in the surrounding areas.
Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that two individuals were taken to hospital, with one person sustaining potentially life-threatening injuries.
A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention in connection with the incident.
