I’m a big fan of weekend getaways, and it amazes me how just a couple of days away can refresh the mind and soul—no need to travel far to find something truly special. Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of visiting Peckmoor Farm Lodges, a holiday destination crowned among the “Best in Britain” at last year’s Hoseasons Diamond Awards.
Situated on an active farm straddling the Somerset-Dorset border near Crewkerne, Peckmoor Farm Lodges sits amidst 350 acres of stunning rural landscape. The boutique lodges offer luxurious woodland retreats, each with its own private hot tub—a feature that truly elevates the experience, as reported by BristolLive.
Our Friday afternoon journey was smooth, even with small children in tow. Arriving around 4 pm, a short rest was all we needed before indulging in the day’s highlight: a relaxing soak in the hot tub under the evening sky. I stayed in the Pilsdon Perch lodge, designed to accommodate four people with two double bedrooms, each boasting an en-suite bathroom—one with a shower, the other with a bathtub. The spacious, modern lodge features high-quality open-plan living with excellent kitchen facilities. I particularly appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, including good pans and a dishwasher—an absolute blessing on a weekend getaway.

But what truly sets Peckmoor Farm apart is its idyllic setting. Surrounded by nature, we enjoyed views of a tranquil pond and trees on one side and open fields with sheep on the other. The lodges are thoughtfully positioned for privacy, with no sightlines to neighbouring units.
Despite early morning wake-up calls from our toddler, sipping a hot drink on the patio, overlooking a breathtaking sunrise and nearby sheep, made those early starts feel like a true luxury. There’s ample space for kids to run free both indoors and outdoors, which was perfect for our energetic toddlers. Fresh farm eggs served with marmite on toast made breakfast a delightful treat.
Saturday was dedicated to exploring Lyme Regis, a charming seaside town just a 30-minute drive away. Although the chilly wind meant we didn’t linger on the beach, the town’s appeal was undeniable. We enjoyed searching for stones, took refuge with a hot drink, and visited the arcade and an outdoor gym. A classic fish and chips lunch in a cosy pub hit the spot before a brief tactical retreat when the kids’ energy got the better of us.
Back at the farm, visiting the animals became the trip’s highlight. Peckmoor Farm is home to emus, highland cows, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, and horses—some of which you can approach closely or even enter their enclosures. My son was especially captivated by the horses, making it hard to pull him away.
Sunday’s rain brought a low-key day with a soft play visit in Taunton and an afternoon of crafts and films back at the lodge. The cozy lodge and occasional quiet moments in the hot tub made those rainy hours feel like a cozy retreat rather than a disappointment.
Before our journey home, we fed carrots to the horses—a perfect final moment to cap off a truly special trip. From the beautiful countryside and exquisite accommodation to the friendly animals and serene atmosphere, Peckmoor Farm Lodges is a stunning destination I would gladly return to in a heartbeat.
