Peter Dunlop, a Somerset man, faced the devastating news of his mother’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis while living in New Zealand. Despite being offered settled status in the country, Peter and his wife chose to return to the UK to support his ailing mother. Witnessing her rapid decline and eventual passing in 2017, Peter decided to channel his grief into a remarkable endeavor - running 12 marathons in 12 months for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Despite the emotional toll, Peter, an experienced athlete, has already completed marathons in Pisa, Peterborough, and Wales, raising over £12,000. His next challenge is the TCS London Marathon, with the aim of continuing to raise funds for vital research into early detection of pancreatic cancer.
Peter’s determination stems from a deep desire to honor his mother’s memory and make a meaningful impact in the fight against this devastating disease. His goal extends beyond the physical feat of completing 12 marathons; he aims to advocate for early detection measures that could potentially save lives. Each marathon represents the precious time his mother had after her diagnosis, and he hopes to contribute to a future where more patients have the chance for curative treatment.
