A-road Closure Scheduled for April as New 20mph Zone Rolled Out in North Somerset

North Somerset Council is set to close a key section of the A370 in Backwell for nearly a week this April to carry out essential road improvement works. From Monday, April 13 to Friday, April 17, the A370 will be closed daily between 7am and 7pm to facilitate the upgrades.

The project will introduce a new 20mph speed zone along West Town Road to enhance safety for all road users. Additional improvements include the installation of six new bus shelters, a new pedestrian crossing, refreshed road markings and signage, and the clearing of overgrown vegetation.

Councillor Hugh Malyan, cabinet member for highways and transport at North Somerset Council, emphasized the importance of the work: “This programme is vital for Backwell’s safety and sustainability. Upgrading highway drainage, improving crossings, and reducing speed limits will help create safer and more resilient communities for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
