Glastonbury is famous for its eclectic shops selling incense, holistic skincare, and spellcraft supplies, but beyond the mysticism, the town offers some remarkable pubs. Among them, the King Arthur stands out as arguably the best pub in town, especially in a month buzzing with rock legends like Neil Young and Rod Stewart heading to the area.
Described on its Facebook page as “specialising in real ales, real music and real people,” The King Arthur lives up to this ethos. On a lively afternoon visit, the pub was buzzing with a balanced mix of locals and tourists enjoying the friendly atmosphere.
The pub’s large, spacious interior features charming beamed ceilings, textured rugs over flagstone floors, and comfortable sofas and armchairs that invite you to settle in. Its walls are adorned with medieval shields, paintings of King Arthur, and other local legends—adding to the pub’s unique character.

A piano in one corner hints at the vibrant musical culture here. The King Arthur regularly hosts live bands on weekends and open mic nights on Wednesdays. Earlier in the week, comedy nights and quiz evenings keep the energy going, making it a hub of entertainment every day.
For those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition, the pub offers a pool table and shelves stocked with board games ranging from classics like Mouse Trap and Monopoly to the more quirky Scruples and the Trotters Trading Game.
Food-wise, the King Arthur serves sensibly priced pub fare, with offerings like balti wraps and “Bangin’ toasties”—grilled sandwiches made with a choice of four cheeses (Cheddar, Red Leicester, mozzarella, and Mexicana) paired with ham, onion, or Marmite.
On the drink front, you’ll find well-known options like Amstel, Guinness, Brue River Lager, and Hell ABK Lager, alongside local favorites such as Bristol Beer Factory’s Fortitude and Dune Twist.
No visit to a Glastonbury pub would be complete without sampling Somerset’s famous ciders. The King Arthur serves a variety including Thatchers Gold, Sheppy’s Classic Draught Cider, and my personal favorite, the crisp and refreshing Rich’s Golden Harvest.
Next time you’re in Glastonbury, make sure to drop by The King Arthur at 31-33 Benedict Street—a pub that truly lives up to its legendary namesake.
