A Family’s Life Changing Move

Alliance Homes has reached a significant milestone with 7,000 properties across the West of England. The achievement was celebrated with the story of one of its newest residents, showcasing the real-life impact of affordable housing.

The housing association, committed to tackling the housing crisis, aims to construct 2,000 more affordable homes by 2033. The recent milestone was reached at the Parish Brook development in Nailsea, North Somerset, where 51 new affordable homes are being built—42 for social rent and nine for shared ownership.

To commemorate this, Alliance Homes’ service director for new homes, Sarah McQuatt, met with Samantha and David Mildon, who recently moved into their new four-bedroom home at Parish Brook with their daughter Bella and assistance dog Huxley.

The move has been life-changing for the family, especially for Bella, who is blind and has autism and epilepsy. Their previous privately rented home was small, expensive to heat and lacked long-term security. The new build has provided stability, space, and accessibility, making a tangible difference to Bella’s wellbeing.

Samantha expressed, “Moving into this house has made such a big difference to our lives - we feel like we’ve won the lottery, and every aspect of our lives has improved.”

David added that the home’s energy efficiency had helped lower their bills. “We only need to put the heating on for an hour in the morning, and it stays cozy for the rest of the day.”

Sarah McQuatt commented, “It’s fantastic to celebrate this milestone and to see first-hand the difference a secure, affordable home can make to a family like Samantha and Bella’s. I’m so pleased to see them flourishing in their new home.”

Alliance Homes Group, a not-for-profit social housing provider, aims to tackle the housing crisis in the South West of England by building 250-300 new affordable homes each year, and plans to build 2,000 more by 2033.
