A Delightful Day Out: Taking Toddlers to a Cheese Cafe

With the warmer weather arriving, it’s the perfect time to take the little ones outdoors and leave behind the usual indoor routines like soft play centers, museums, and cafes. When the sun shines, fresh air and outdoor activities are the way to go.

I love introducing my two-and-a-half-year-old to new experiences, so when some friends invited me to join them at Bath Soft Cheese a couple of weeks ago, I happily agreed. The journey from Easton was about half an hour, and parking at the venue was convenient.

Our toddlers immediately headed for the nearby playground, which, although not huge, featured a swing, slide, and climbing frame—plenty to keep them entertained. After some active play, we made our way to the cafe for a hot drink and to meet up with friends. While our beverages took a little longer than expected, the children stayed happily occupied with snacks, toys we’d brought along, and a nearby chicken coop that fascinated them.

The barn also houses a cozy playroom, filled with toys and equipped with a large window overlooking the resident cows. Our youngsters were absolutely enthralled watching the animals—an unexpected highlight of the visit.

After we’d had our fill, we took a gentle stroll around a couple of nearby fields. Several walking routes start from Bath Soft Cheese, but with little legs in tow, we opted for a short, manageable loop. It turned out to be a wise choice, as the final stretch was a bit challenging for both toddlers and parents alike.

By the end of the morning, our toddlers were happily worn out, nodding off quickly in the car. I admit, at first, I was a bit skeptical about the idea of a cheese cafe trip—how middle-class, right? But I was pleasantly surprised by just how enjoyable and kid-friendly the experience was. Next time, I’m keen to come back without the children to sample the famous cheeses Bath Soft Cheese is known for.
