80 New Homes Approved in Somerset Village

Revised plans for a new housing development in Cotford St. Luke, a small Somerset village, have been approved, allowing the construction of 80 new homes and a takeaway to move forward. Lovell Homes, the developer, will start work on the project in a matter of months, with a focus on sustainable features and a commitment to biodiversity net gain.

The homes, ranging from two to four bedrooms, will include 20 units at affordable rates in compliance with the council’s policy. The commitment to sustainability is reflected in the use of air source heat pumps and a gas-free design for the entire development. The site will also prioritize biodiversity net gain, with plans to enhance the local environment to support plant and wildlife growth.

The commercial aspect of the project, a takeaway outlet, will be the subject of a separate planning application, currently open for public consultation. The development has been considered of high quality, offering much-needed housing and contributing to the sustainability of the settlement.

The approval of the plans by the council’s planning committee reflects their satisfaction with the design’s sensitivity to the surroundings and the effective flood control measures in place. With unanimous approval of the revised plans, the construction is set to begin soon, with potential for further housing developments in the village in the near future.
