700 drivers warned in Dorset speeding crackdown

In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, hundreds of drivers in Dorset have been issued with advisory letters following a week-long speeding operation. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with Dorset Police, saw almost 700 warning letters distributed to motorists caught exceeding the speed limit.

The operation, which took place between April 6 and April 11, involved the participation of around 1,300 local volunteers from 56 Community Speed Watch (CSW) teams across the county. These dedicated individuals utilized basic speed detection devices to monitor a staggering 31,677 vehicles, emphasizing the community’s commitment to deterring reckless driving.

Superintendent Rob Chalkley of Dorset Police stressed the importance of addressing speeding violations, highlighting the potential catastrophic consequences of excessive speeds in the event of a road traffic collision.

Commending the volunteers' dedication, CSW coordinator Maria Attwood underscored their pivotal role in promoting community safety and preventing road traffic incidents.

Dorset police and crime commissioner David Sidwick expressed gratitude for the substantial contribution of CSW teams, emphasizing their integral role in curbing dangerous driving behaviors and reducing road-related casualties.
