Peter Bissell, aged 70, from Becket Road, Worle, has appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court charged with possessing explosive substances for unlawful purposes and possessing a firearm without a certificate. The charges follow an incident on September 30, when police established an overnight 100-metre cordon around a property in Becket Road after suspected explosives and firearms were found. Bissell was remanded to appear at Bristol Crown Court later this week. Neighbourhood Policing Superintendent Jen Appleford described the investigation as complex and involving several agencies. She thanked the public for their patience during the cordon and evacuation and praised the work of officers and partner organisations, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit. She urged the public to avoid speculation as court proceedings continue.
