Taunton is set to benefit from up to 60 new jobs with the opening of Sherwell Manor, a newly built 66-bed care home located on the Killams Park estate. This development forms part of a larger project by Summerfield Homes, which recently completed 320 homes on Killams Drive, near the southern edge of Somerset’s county town.
Sherwell Manor, situated on Cutliffe Road, is nearing completion after construction began last summer, following planning approval from Somerset Council in March 2025. The care home will officially open its doors in June and will be operated by Crystal Care Collection, partnering with LNT Care Developments.
Designed to provide specialist residential and dementia care, Sherwell Manor features 66 en-suite bedrooms, lounges, dining areas, a salon, garden rooms, and a cinema—all fully accessible to residents. The facility offers a welcoming and vibrant environment aimed at enhancing the quality of life for older adults.

This new care home will create a wide range of employment opportunities in Taunton, including roles in housekeeping, catering, management, activities coordination, and frontline care. Em Dean, managing director of Crystal Care Collection in the South West, emphasized the company’s commitment to community engagement, stating, “Sherwell Manor represents a major investment in Taunton’s future care services. We look forward to collaborating with local groups, schools, and volunteers to enrich our residents’ social lives and foster strong community connections.”
In addition to Sherwell Manor, Taunton is also seeing growth in care facilities with Greenland Meadows care home opening soon on the Orchard Grove estate and a planned 70-bed facility at Woodlands Castle in Ruishton following recent planning approval.
