60 New Jobs Created as Sherwell Manor Care Home Opens in Taunton

Taunton is set to welcome up to 60 new jobs with the upcoming opening of Sherwell Manor, a brand-new 66-bed care home located on the Killams Park estate. This development is part of a wider housing project by Summerfield Homes, which is nearing completion of 320 homes on Killams Drive at the southern edge of Taunton.

Sherwell Manor sits on Cutliffe Road, with construction led by LNT Care Developments after securing planning permission from Somerset Council in March 2025. The care home is scheduled to open its doors in June and will be operated by Crystal Care Collection, LNT’s partner specializing in residential and dementia care.

Designed for comfort and accessibility, Sherwell Manor features 66 en-suite bedrooms, lounges, dining areas, a salon, garden rooms, and even a cinema. It will provide a wide range of services, employing staff across housekeeping, catering, management, activities coordination, and frontline care roles.

Em Dean, managing director at Crystal Care Collection South West, highlighted the importance of Sherwell Manor’s contribution: “This is a significant investment in the future of care for older people in Taunton. We aim to foster strong community ties through collaboration with local groups, schools, and volunteers, ensuring residents enjoy an engaging and socially rich environment.”

This growth in care facilities in Taunton continues with Greenland Meadows on the Orchard Grove estate, set to open in May, and a planned 70-bed care home at Woodlands Castle in Ruishton, pending approval by the Planning Inspectorate. Together, these developments underscore Taunton’s expanding support infrastructure for its aging population.
