An outline planning application has been submitted by Sparkford II LVA LLP for the construction of up to 60 new homes in a developing village located near the A303. The proposal, which aims to extend the existing estate road southward and cluster the new homes around local play facilities, is currently under review. The Somerset Council is anticipated to make a final decision on the plans by the end of the summer.
The proposed site for the new homes is bordered by existing housing on three sides and the Bristol to Weymouth railway line on the west. The plans include an extension of Cherry Blossom Way and the safeguarding of a parcel of land for potential community use. Additionally, measures such as significant landscaping and the installation of an attenuation pond are intended to mitigate the impact of the new development on the surrounding area.
Of the 60 homes earmarked for the site, 21 are designated as affordable, meeting the council’s requirement for a percentage of affordable housing in new developments. In a proactive move to prevent environmental impact, the developer plans to purchase phosphate credits generated from fallowed agricultural land. The design and materials proposed for the development are in line with the local context and aim to create a sustainable and attractive living environment.
