20-Year-Old Green Party Candidate Aims to Become Youngest MP in History

At just 20 years old, Thomas Daw is striving to make history by potentially becoming the youngest Member of Parliament for Weston-super-Mare in the upcoming general election. If successful, he would also be only the second Green Party MP in UK history.

Daw, who is a local councillor for Wrington and was born in Weston, views his youth as an advantage in bringing much-needed representation for the younger demographic into the political sphere. He aims to address various pressing issues, including housing, antisocial behavior, and environmental concerns, such as the surge in sewage that has garnered national attention.

In his vision for the town, Daw emphasizes the importance of addressing social and financial inequality as a key component in combatting climate change. He advocates for the renationalization of water companies and urges policies to revitalize the local ecosystem. Additionally, he highlights the party’s proposals to address housing shortages by empowering councils to acquire unused properties and emphasizes the need to address drug misuse at its roots, including the aim to decriminalize marijuana and redirect resources towards support rather than punishment.

Amidst the competition from established political parties, Daw remains resolute in his ambition to secure a victory, demonstrating confidence in his potential to disrupt the traditional party dynamics in Weston-super-Mare.

The General Election, scheduled for Thursday, July 4, will determine whether Daw’s aspirations come to fruition.
