A new £175,000 pump track in Wellington is set to open with a grand celebration next weekend. Situated in Wellington Park, the pump track offers a series of artificial hills designed for cycling, skateboarding, roller-skating, and scooting enthusiasts of all ages.
The free-to-use facility, primarily funded by local property developers, will officially launch on Saturday, 26 September. The event will begin at 10am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a live demonstration showcasing the track’s features and capabilities. Open riding sessions will be held from 11am to noon, and later from 12.30pm to 2pm, with an interlude featuring a remote control car demonstration.
Visitors will also enjoy a variety of food and drink options alongside numerous stalls, creating a lively community atmosphere. Town Clerk Dave Farrow expressed his excitement about the new facility, saying, “I am thrilled that the town council has been able to deliver such a fantastic facility for the community. The new pump track is a real asset for the town and will provide fun, recreation and opportunities for young people and families for years to come.”

He extended gratitude to Clark & Kent, the contractors, praising their “excellent job” and meticulous attention to detail which has helped create a feature Wellington can be proud of. Mr Farrow added, “This project shows our commitment to investing in facilities that improve the quality of life for local people, and I can’t wait to see the track in regular use.”
Ahead of the official opening, the pump track has already been available for public use following a successful safety inspection. Fencing will remain around the track temporarily to protect the newly planted grass, and visitors are asked to avoid walking on muddy areas to aid the turf’s recovery.
The grand opening event at Wellington Park is free to attend and runs from 10am until 2pm, inviting the community to come along, get on their wheels, and enjoy the new recreational facility.
