A 15-year-old boy has appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of 16-year-old Shayne Hambakachere in Chippenham. The youth, whose identity is protected due to his age, appeared on Wednesday, February 4.
Shayne was found seriously injured shortly before 4 p.m. last Saturday and was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he sadly passed away.
Chairwoman of the bench, Helen Toomer, explained that the gravity of the charge meant the case would be transferred to Bristol Crown Court. The accused was remanded into youth detention accommodation, with the next hearing scheduled for Friday.

In a heartfelt statement released by Wiltshire Police on Tuesday, Shayne’s father, Emmanuel Hambakachere, remembered his son’s vibrant personality and kindness. He described Shayne as having a great sense of humor, enjoying gym workouts, and competing in school sprinting events. At home, Shayne showed responsibility by consistently completing chores, adhering to his curfew, and keeping open communication with his family.
“He was very helpful around the house and did whatever was asked of him without complaining,” Mr. Hambakachere said. “Shayne was a brave and bold young man, unafraid to speak his mind and stand up for his beliefs.”
He also reflected on the family’s recent cherished moments with Shayne, recounting their “wonderful final Christmas” together. Emmanuel expressed profound gratitude to the doctors and staff at Southmead Hospital for their dedicated care and support during this difficult time.
The community has rallied in Shayne’s memory, with flowers and tributes placed at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham where he was a pupil.
