£15 Million Revamp Planned for Yeovil’s Octagon Theatre, Work Set to Start Next Financial Year

The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil is on track for a significant £15 million refurbishment aimed at reopening its doors with enhanced facilities and improved accessibility. Closed since April 2023, the venue’s rejuvenation plans have been submitted by Somerset Council and Yeovil Town Council, signaling a new chapter for this cultural landmark.

The comprehensive makeover includes extensive upgrades to the theatre’s interior, front-of-house areas, energy efficiency, and accessibility for all—whether onstage performers or audience members. Should the plans gain approval, construction is expected to commence during the 2026/2027 financial year.

Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Communities, Housing Revenue Account, Culture and Equalities, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “This is a major milestone for this exciting endeavour. Seeing the plans submitted gives us a real glimpse into the future of the Octagon Theatre. We are committed to delivering the project on budget and on time, ensuring the theatre is modernised for everyone across Somerset and beyond to enjoy.”
