A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured in a dog attack in the quiet village of Potterne, Wiltshire, on the evening of April 9. Around 9:30 pm, two dogs escaped from their property in Ryeleaze and attacked the teenager, prompting a swift response from armed police.
The boy was rushed to hospital with serious injuries that medical staff say are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Officers successfully apprehended the dogs, securing them in a police van before relocating them to secure kennels.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the dogs’ owner has been identified and will be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The breeds of the dogs involved have not yet been disclosed.

Devizes Neighbourhood Inspector Simon Garrett expressed sympathy for the victim and his family, highlighting the seriousness of the attack. “This was a horrendous and distressing incident for the victim and all witnesses,” he said. “We have seized the dogs and continue to investigate the full circumstances. Additional officers will patrol the area to provide reassurance.”
The police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist with the inquiry. The incident has raised concerns within the local community about dog safety and control.
