Wells, England’s smallest city, is set to welcome a major new housing development with the construction of 100 new homes at The Elms. The first show home is scheduled to open this spring, offering prospective buyers a preview of the charming three, four, and five-bedroom houses just a five-minute walk from the bustling High Street.
Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Redrow South West, the developer behind The Elms, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “The Elms will be a highly desirable place to live. With energy-efficient designs, a prime location, and excellent amenities, we anticipate strong interest from those looking to make Wells their new home.”
Strategically located between Elm Close and Burcott Lane, the development enjoys easy access to the A371 leading into the city centre. The nearby A39 offers swift routes to Bristol, Bath, and the M5 motorway, enhancing connectivity for residents.

The project includes thoughtful infrastructure improvements such as a new junction on Elm Close, a dedicated footpath and cycle lane, and three new pedestrian crossings. Families will benefit from a new play area for children, while two existing public footpaths will be upgraded to encourage outdoor activity and accessibility.
Importantly, 40% of the homes will be designated as affordable housing, ensuring a diverse community mix. Additionally, David Wilson Redrow South West has pledged £840,000 to support local facilities and infrastructure, demonstrating a strong commitment to the community’s growth.
Currently, Wells has a population just shy of 13,000. Interested buyers are encouraged to register their interest online to be part of this exciting expansion.
